Full Description
Mountain Guides Italy is specialised in organising custom made mountaineering courses and guided trips for individuals or small groups. In this Advanced Mountaineering Course, we can work with one or two people per Guide. We do not have pre-set dates for our courses or trips because we work around the needs and technical level of our clients.
In the Summer we are based in Ponte di Legno, a lovely mountain village in the Italian Alps and a perfect location for mountaineering in the Adamello range and in the Brenta Dolomites. We can stay in the village and do day trips, or spend a few days in the mountains in a "Rifugio". We also Guide all over the Alps.
Example Itinerary
It is for you and your guide to decide the exact makeup of your booking however, these itinerary days shown below are an example of how a booking for this activity could be structured.
Arrival day |
Transfer from your arrival airport to our b&b in Ponte di Legno. |
Day 1 - Getting to know you |
What ever your level, before we head to the mountains, we need to go though a series of routine exercises. According to your experience, this could take from a few hours to a couple of days. These are the topics: basic climbing technique, rope work, knots, rock climbing equipment, belaying and abseiling, rock climbing technique, placing and removing nuts/wires and friends, crampon technique, ice axe arrest, crevasse rescue. |
Days 2,3,4 and 5 - Into the mountains |
Depending on your level and request, we will select a multiday itinerary that has it all for your mountaineering training: Adamello Glacier, Presanella Glacier, Ortles/Cevedale range, Brenta Dolomites. These areas are on our doorstep and have every type of terrain: Via Ferrata, rocky and snowy ridges, glaciers, crevasses, hospitable comfortable huts, awesome views, high altitude environment. Each day, together with you Guide, you will plan the itinerary on the map, choose the best route, decide what equipment to use and how, learn how to safely glacier travel and navigate in case of bad weather. All under the watchful eye of your Guide. A total full immersion experience. |
Departure day |

Advanced Mountaineering Course Reviews
A fantastic 2 days
"A short message to let you know that James and I had a fantastic 2 days with Massimo. He could not have been better ( particularly as an instructor) and we thoroughly enjoyed his company both as a guide and as a source of information on a huge variety of subjects - our endless questions must have nearly driven him mad. We are completely hooked and will definitely be back next year. Please pass on our thanks and best wishes to Massimo and if possible please ask him to send us the photos he took of us on Brenta Dolomites on Tuesday 1 July. Thank you for all your kind assistance"
