    Via Ferrata Dolomites Multi-day trip

    Full Description

Rich in ancient culture and tradition, the mountains and valleys of the Dolomiti (Dolomites) are largely protected as regional parks and are crisscrossed by a vast network of well-marked trails. To the explorers of the 19th century, influenced by a romantic and heroic vision, these mountains were especially atmospheric. The bizarre vertical shapes, steeples, pinnacles and towers of white rock, standing out among brilliant green forests and grassy slopes dotted here and there with cows and tidy farms captured their imaginations. The landscape of today is no different. The meadows are still gentle and hospitable, flora and fauna are rich and varied, and the mountains are just as impressive.

Via Ferrata can vary in length from short routes taking less than an hour, to long, demanding alpine routes covering significant distance and altitude (1,000 metres or more of ascent taking eight or more hours to complete). In the Dolomites, it is possible to link several Via Ferrata together, staying overnight in mountain refuges, and so undertake extensive multi-day climbing tours at high altitude.

The following Example Itinerary trip takes place in the Brenta Dolomites and is one of the best multi day Via Ferrata trips in the World. The full trip is 5 days from hut to hut (highly recommended) but you can also do the first 3 or 4 days if you are short of time.

    Example Itinerary

It is for you and your guide to decide the exact makeup of your booking however, these itinerary days shown below are an example of how a booking for this activity could be structured.

    Arrival day

Transfer from your arrival airport to our b&b in Ponte di Legno.

Day 1 - Via Ferrata Benini

From Ponte di Legno we drive for 1hr to Passo Campo Carlo Magno, near Madonna di Campiglio. From here we take the gondola to Passo Grostè. After following an easy trail, the Via Ferrata Benini leads us to the cosy Rifugio Tuckett where we will spend the night after a great Italian dinner! This is considered an easy/moderate level via ferrata. 5 hours hiking, 600 metres elevation gain and loss

Day 2 - Via Ferrata Bocchette Alte

After breakfast, we leave the hut a tackle a small glacier with crampons leading up to Bocca di Tuckett. From here, we start the Via Ferrata Bocchette Alte, a spectacular route that winds nearly all the way up to Cima Brenta (3150m), continuing with fantastic views and lots of ladders to Rifugio Alimonta. This is considered a moderate/difficult level via ferrata. 6 hours hiking, 700 metres elevation gain and loss. We have the option of doing Via Ferrata SOSAT if a moderate option is preferred.

Day 3 - Via Ferrata Bocchette Centrali

From the Alimonta hut, once again we will need crampons to reach Bocca delle Armi. From this Col, we start the famous Bocchette Centrali. During the itinerary, there are great views of Campanile Basso and Campanile Alto. After this section of the Brenta Dolomites Via Ferrata, we will have decided before the trip if to continue for 1 or 2 days, or to finish here and descend back to the valley and transfer back to our b&b in Ponte di Legno or to another location. This is considered a moderate level via ferrata. 6 hours hiking, 700 metres elevation gain and 900 metres elevation loss if continuing to Rifugio Agostini. 8 hours hiking, 200metres elevation gain and 1200 metres elevation loss if returning back to Madonna di Campiglio

Day 4 - Via Ferrata Castiglioni, Sentiero Attrezzato dell'ideale, Sentiero Martinazzi

This is a stunning day with 3 Via Ferrata. We will leave Rifugio Agostini early to tackle the first Via Ferrata of the day, Castiglioni. The highest point is Bocchetta dei Due Denti, 2859m. From hear we head downhill to Rifugio XII Apostoli for a cappuccino! After the break we head uphill again to Sentiero dell'Ideale and Sentiero Martinazzi which will lead us along some superb scenery to Rifugio Brentei. 6-7 hours hiking, 1000 metres elevation gain and loss

Day 5 - Via Ferrata Sentiero SOSAT

From Rifugio Brentei we head uphill towards the start of Via Ferrata Sentiero SOSAT. This is a fun itinerary with lots of ladders and great views on the peaks that you are sure to be able to name by now. The Via Ferrata ends at Rifugio Tuckett where we stayed on the first night, very convenient lunch stop for today. From here we have a 2 hour hike on a very scenic trail back to Passo Grostè and the Gondola back to Madonna di Campiglio. 6 hours hiking, 600 metres elevation gain, 200 metres elevation loss

Via Ferrata Dolomites Multi-day trip Reviews

    Super Guide

"Massimo was a super guide. He assessed our abilities correctly and did not take us on anything that was too difficult for our level. He also gave us an overview of the region and some history which was much appreciated. We would definitely look to working with Mountain Guides Italy again when we are ready for our next adventure.
